Ashley Brophy - Director
Director / Performer / Rigger
Ashley is from a large show business family that dates back to the early 1900's. In 1975 Ashley started performing at the age of nine with his family, parents Mick and Norma, sisters Shayne and Kym and brothers Warren and Gary (Ashley is the youngest).
He began performing his rola bola balancing act at this time later branching out into other acts such as tightwire and whips and lassos. During his youth he performed in Brophy Bros Circus at venues and shows throughout Australia.
Since then, with his performance on the tightwire he has broken two world records and created a new one. At the 1st Adelaide Grand Prix in 1988 Ashley shattered the old marathon endurance record by walking on a 20m high wire 11.5 km in 3.5 hours (old record 3.5 km in 3.5 hours). Later with a skipping rope he became the first person in the world to break the 100 barrier going on to jump 393 times consecutively on the tightrope for the television show ‘Just For The Record’. At Moomba Festival in 1987 Ashley became the only person (still to date) to walk a moving tight wire set on a moving float a distance of 5 km.
From 1987 Ashley was one part of the daredevil flying angels show performing with his brother Warren on a highwire up to 30 metres in the air on a moving motorbike apparatus with two carousel horses and aerialists attached to it. Neither of the boys had safety wires attached. In 1991 Ashley was sponsored by Uncle Tobys Breakfast Cereal to compete in Paris were he became a prize-winner, at the Mondial du Cirque de Demaine with a performance including dancing and somersaulting on the tight wire. This performance earned him international recognition. For ten years after wards he went on to perform in theatres, circus, clubs and corporate venues throughout the U.K., Sweden, Europe, Asia and South Africa all the time constantly perfecting his performance not only on the tightwire but also with other circus apparatus.
In 2000, in the spirit of his parents who founded Brophy Bros Attractions (so named after Ashley and his brothers who were the performers) Ashley then co-founded “Brophy Productions” where he gained valuable experience with production and management. As well passing on his circus arts skills by teaching with "The Flying Fruit Fly Circus" and later "Brophy Academy of Circus Arts". He later moved on to establish Brophy Events Pty Ltd in 2010 to reflect a business that had expanded into some aspects of event production and big top tent hire in addition to the production of circus shows and acts.
Ashley has always had a big role in rigging with circus tents, high wire and aerial acts. He attained his advanced riggers and industrial abseiling tickets and more rigging experience was gained with various rigging company's through rigging in entertainment centres, shopping centres and large concerts and festivals such as Splendorfest, Bon Jovi and the largest touring concert rig in the World "U2".
In 2009 he competed and became a finalist performing in Channel 7's 'Australia's Got Talent ". Later also appearing in the 2011 show ‘Australia’s Got Amazing Talent’. Ashley performs regularly for corporate events, festivals, conferences, rodeos and circus’ in Australia and overseas. He is always perfecting his performances and creating new routines including a dynamic and breathtaking highwire act that is available for bookings from June 2012. His tightwire act is a one of a kind in Australia.
